Food Drives

Food collected from a Food DriveYou can take action and help solve hunger in our state.  The best way is by making a one-time or monthly financial donation and encouraging others to do the same. Your financial commitment allows us to acquire healthy and nutritious food for the benefit of our hungry neighbors.

Ask us to create a custom giving page for your group and invite others to contribute. Email stephanie.santillanes@rrfb.org or call 505.349.8674 to notify us you’d like a personalized page to raise funds with your group, organization or business right from your computer.  Here’s an example of a page, customized for the Feds Feeds Family campaign.

We recognize that you may also wish to help by hosting a food drive and collecting food items in your place of employment, faith community, school, or organization.  Food drives can be held any time of year during a time that works for your group.

Organizing a Food Drive

To host a successful food drive, be sure to organize your food drive and prepare the tools you will need in advance of the start date.  This should include: how you will advertise and communicate the details about the food drive to your group, the use of collection boxes to hold the food in, and coordinating the delivery of the food items to Roadrunner Food Bank. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Set a start date to begin collecting food items and an end date when items will stop being collected.
  • Schedule a date for your group to take a tour of the Food Bank.
  • Find boxes or bins to place in various areas in which to collect the food.  Be sure to label them with details about the food drive.
  • Periodically remind your group where and how to donate food items.
  • Collect non-perishable food only (items that do not require refrigeration).
  • Please do not collect any homemade food items or any foods without ingredient labels. We follow strict food safety guidelines and procedures which do not allow us to distribute food without labels or ingredient information.
  • Please be prepared to bring the collected food items to Roadrunner.  Our fleet must remain focused on delivering food to distribution points across the state.  We do not have enough vehicles in our fleet to pick up donated food from a food drive.
  • We encourage you to call 505.349.8909 or 505.349.8841 in advance to arrange a time to deliver the food to Roadrunner Food Bank.

How to Donate Food Collected During Your Food Drive

When your food drive is ending, please contact us by phone or email to arrange a time to deliver the food to Roadrunner Food Bank.  As noted above, our fleet must remain focused on delivering food and we are unable to pick up food held as part of a food drive.

Start an Online Fund Drive with Your Group From Your Computer

Get your group involved in helping solve hunger by starting an Online Fund Drive.  It is the easiest and most cost effective way to feed our hungry neighbors.  For every $1 your group and team raises, we are able to distribute FIVE meals to help feed our hungry neighbors. Your team’s efforts help leverage the amount of food we can distribute.  All funds raised through your online efforts will help us acquire and distribute more food.

Your online efforts allow us to source food throughout the state, regionally and nationally.

  1. Start your very own Online Fund Drive team and ask us to create a customized giving page. Contact stephanie.santillanes@rrfb.org or call 505.349.8674 and provide details about your campaign dates and group name. We’ll provide you a customized giving page link to use during your online campaign.
  2. Set a goal of how much your team would like to collect.
  3. Periodically send reminder email messages asking your team to give and participate.
  4. Encourage your team members to invite 5-10 additional people to contribute to your team’s efforts.

The online fund drive is ideal for businesses to engage and involve employees in charitable activities.  It is also perfect for faith communities, fraternities and sororities, schools, and other groups to get involved and help.
